Michael Maurer Obituary

Michael (Mike) John Maurer
Born in Chicago IL
Grew up in Villa Park IL
Had a love of music like Greatful Dead and AC/DC.
After High School Mike went to school for HVAC. In 1997 he decided to take a job in Colorado working with HVAC.

Once he moved to Colorado he really took advantage of being an independent, self sufficient and  successful man. He spent his free time going on day long motorcycle rides on his Harley, watching and attending NASCAR events, taking drives in the Rocky Mtns and enjoying owning three rowdy dogs. In 2009 he married another Colorado transplant, Jess. In 2010 they welcomed a son, Jarrett Taylor 'JT' and in 2012 a daughter,  Magnolia Paige 'Maggie'.  So he could continue his long rides now that he was a family man - he bought a 1969 GTO that had a back seat where 2 car seats fit nicely.
In 2016 Mike began to suffer debilitating headaches that would leave him unable to leave the house. Just before Christmas, Mike's doctors discovered he had a slow growing tumor in the center of his head. Its growth was pushing on parts of his brain causing the extremely painful headaches. In January 2017 Mike underwent a 13+ hour surgery to remove the tumor. Doctors successfully removed 95% of tumor. A mere 9 weeks after his tremendous surgery Mike went back to work full time. He was nothing if not responsible for the support of his family.

He had many scans and tests to ensure the tumor was not growing back. However in 2018 it had started to grow again. Mike underwent 5 sessions of radiation per week for 5 long weeks. He continued to work 4 days a week throughout treatment.

Mike was devoted to his family and spent all his free time with them. Spending weekends doing home improvement projects with the kids was a normal occurrence.

In 2019 he sold his beloved GTO to put a bigger down-payment on what Jess called their forever home. Don't worry! Early in 2020 he replaced the empty hole in the garage with a 2018 Ford Mustang, Racing Red in color with 2 black racing stripes down its top. He & the kids took many rides going FAST, FAST, FAST.

When asked what they would miss the most about their father, the children replied, "he would play with us, he made us a tire swing out of an old NASCAR tire" JT enjoyed when Mike would help him with his math homework & Maggie liked coloring with Daddy.

Even in death, Mike's responsible nature shined through to care for his family. Jess & the kids were able to relocate to Southern Arizona, purchase a home and begin to rebuild.
