Rosemary Van
De Zande
July 2, 2024
RoseMary Van De Zande, 92, of Addison, Illinois, passed away peacefully at home on July 2, 2024. She was born in Chicago but lived in Addison in the same home for the last 67 years. In her youth, she was an avid volleyball and softball player, winning awards at school for her accomplishments. She married her husband Leo in 1953 and they had a loving 69-year marriage before he passed away in 2022.
RoseMary is preceded in death by her husband, Leo, and son, Frank. She is survived by her children, Susan (Pecorelli), Denise (Nisler), Paul Van De Zande (Tony Mirante); five grandchildren, Zachary, Angela, Cody, Makayla and Sierra; great-grandchildren Frankie and Cameron.
RoseMary was a wonderful mother and homemaker, raising four children while her husband worked three jobs. She found time to get all her children involved in school sports, band, and extracurricular activities. She welcomed friends and family to her home often and cherished time spent with them. RoseMary was an expert with the crochet needle, making many afghans, throws, hats, scarves, and mittens which she gave to loved ones, friends, and others in need. She was passionate about all sports, with a special affinity for the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. She also loved to watch classic movies and Perry Mason reruns. On sunny days, RoseMary could be found out on the patio appreciating her garden, drinking hot tea, and talking about the weather or pointing out the birds and squirrels around in the yard. In their later years, RoseMary and Leo took up square-dancing and twirled, promenaded, and do-si-doed their way to happiness, developing many long and treasured friendships. At the same time, they were traveling across the states, mostly on bus tours, exploring the sights. But RoseMary was always happy to return and often said "there's no place like home."
RoseMary lived her life with dignity, grace, and unconditional love for her family. She will be remembered for her friendliness and kindness, her warm smile and strong hugs, and the joy she brought others.
