Edward W. Conrad

Edward W. Conrad, a resident of Beacon Hill in Lombard, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Chicago on December 12, 1921 recently celebrating his 96th birthday. Edward was the dear son of the late Nell and Arthur Conrad, loving father of Linda (Donna Miller), beloved brother of Donna Carlson and forever friend and companion of Mae Dyer. He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Marilyn and adored son Edward W. Conrad, Jr. A special uncle, loved and cherished by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins alike, that all referred to him as “Our Uncle Ed.”

Adored uncle and great uncle of Pam Carlson of Davenport, IA and her children Daniel (Lauren) and Colin (Fiancé Stephanie). Karen (Gail Petteruti) Carlson of Seattle, WA and their children Claire Carlson-Jurich and Luke Carlson Petteruti. and  Kurt (Janine) Carlson, of Richmond, IL and their children Kelly (Mimi Mam),  Anders (Sochaitan), Kirsten (Colton) Preo and Anna, and the late Diane Carlson. Susan (the late Robert Ronkin) Dyer of Winfield, IL, Carol (Chris) Brown of Naperville, IL and Annie (Mike) Finnerty and Sally (Brad) Murrow of St. Charles, IL and their children Rebecca (Dan McCracken) and Benjamin (Gabriela). Dear cousin of Robert (Kari) Miller and George (Connie) Miller.

Edward enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 where he completed business school and later began his long career in sales. He met and married Marilyn (nee Dyer) on June 19, 1943 and were married for 41 years, until her death in 1985. The couple built their first home in the Western Suburb of Lombard where they raised their family, they later moved to Glen Ellyn where they resided until his retirement.

Ed had a very successful career in Heating and Air Conditioning System sales with Westinghouse and General Electric. Year after year Ed and Marilyn traveled with other sales executives to exotic cities and countries in honor of multiple Sales Awards he received. They enjoyed visiting several “Wonders of the World” and their jet setting lifestyle bestowed upon them.

Throughout the years Ed enjoyed his family, every effort was made to make yearly visits to those who lived out of town. Over the years he celebrated every birthday and holiday with family, and always remembered everyone else’s birthday as well. He was generous with his time, always available to help, especially when it came to appliances and televisions. No one ever made a major purchase without consulting “Uncle Ed!”

A Visitation will be held from 10-11:00 am on Monday, January 15, 2018 at Leonard Memorial Home, 565 Duane Street, Glen Ellyn, IL 60137. Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment Wheaton Cemetery.
