HARRY G. BUEHLER

Harry G. Buehler, 98, of Franklin Park, IL., passed away at HarborChase Memory Care in Naperville, IL. on Friday, August 23, 2024. He was born in Esslingen, Germany, to parents Rosa nee Vogt and Frederich Buehler and grew up in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Harry attended trade school to be an electrician before he voluntarily joined the German Navy to avoid being drafted into Hitler's army. He worked on ships in Hamburg, Germany. In his youth, he was active in playing soccer, hiking and skiing. In the U.S., he took up golfing and could be found on the golf course more than ever once he retired. It was in Ludwigsburg, Germany, where he meet his future wife, Hildegard nee Gross. They married in 1950 and had their first daughter, Karin, in 1951.

The family immigrated to the United States in 1955 and lived briefly on Long Island, NY before moving to Chicago, IL and then to Franklin Park, IL where their second daughter, Suzanne, was born. He and his family became U.S. citizens in 1961.

.Harry worked as an electrician at R.R. Donnelly in Chicago and then at Borg Warner from which he retired in 1990. He was a member of the Schwaben-Verein (a social club of Germans from the Southwestern areas of Germany) and belonged to I.B.E.W. Local Number 134.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hildegard Buehler nee Gross, who died in 1985 and by his long-term companion, Patricia Parker, who died in 2017. He is survived by his sister, Jane; two daughters — Karin (Dave) Hamburg and Suzanne Sailor and  three grandchildren — Erin (Justin) Inveninato; Skylar Hamburg and Nikki Sailor.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
